Why Does Baijiu Taste So Strong?
Baijiu can taste more intense than its alcohol percentage alone might suggest because its aroma and flavour profile are very different from many Western spirits. Depending on the style, baijiu may have powerful grain, fermented, fruity, savoury or aromatic characteristics that create a distinctive first impression. Strong-aroma baijiu, for example, is known for its expressive aroma and layered flavour, while lighter styles can offer a cleaner and more delicate profile. The traditional serving method also influences perception, as baijiu is often poured into small glasses and enjoyed neat. For first-time drinkers, taking small sips and paying attention to the aroma before tasting can make the experience much more approachable.
